Station by Station

Nine Stations, One Job Each

Broken down, those five stages are nine production stations running in sequence. What each one does, and the equipment behind it, is set out below.

  1. Slurry Mixing01Slurry MixingActive materials, conductive additives and binder are mixed into a uniform slurry.
  2. Coating02CoatingThe slurry is coated evenly onto copper and aluminium foil, then dried into electrode sheet.
  3. Calendering03CalenderingRollers compress the sheet to a target density for a denser, better-conducting electrode.
  4. Die Cutting04Die CuttingElectrode sheet is punched to the cell dimensions, cutting the tabs at the same time.
  5. Stacking05StackingCathode, separator and anode are stacked layer by layer to form the cell body.
  6. Ultrasonic Welding06Ultrasonic WeldingUltrasound welds the layer tabs into one, which is then joined to the external tab.
  7. Packaging07PackagingAluminium laminate film is formed around the cell and top- and side-sealed into the pouch.
  8. Electrolyte Filling08Electrolyte FillingElectrolyte is injected and left to soak in so lithium ions can move between the electrodes.
  9. Formation & Testing09Formation & TestingA first charge-discharge forms the SEI layer, followed by degassing, sealing and grading.
Nine stations later, this is the pouch cell you get: the aluminium laminate film encloses the stack, separators keep cathode and anode apart, and the tabs exit through the top seal.

Production Flexibility

Why Low-Volume Customisation

Low Volume, High Mix

Both low-volume sample requirements and volume production are supported — well suited to start-up products and diverse application development.

Any Form Factor

Any size or irregular shape can be built to the application, without being constrained to standard product dimensions.

Short Lead Times

A lean, efficient process shortens lead times and helps customers bring products to market quickly.
